This morning, the official inauguration ceremony for the new hybrid motorship Ambrosiana was held at the port of Como, built as part of the fleet enhancement and modernization plan of the Gestione Governativa Navigazione Laghi.
The event was attended by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Sen. Matteo Salvini, the Undersecretary of State, Senator Alessandro Morelli, and the main regional and local institutional authorities.
“The new naval unit, set to enter operational service in the coming weeks on Lake Como, represents a significant step in the path of ecological transition promoted by the Gestione Governativa, with the aim of developing a sustainable, modern, and efficient lake mobility system, in line with national policies for reducing environmental impact in the transport sector,” explained a note. “Designed for a capacity of 350 passengers, distributed over three decks and equipped with large outdoor areas, the motorship Ambrosiana offers high standards of comfort, accessibility, and functionality. The vessel is equipped with bicycle racks, charging sockets for e-bikes, and, most importantly, with a diesel-electric hybrid propulsion system that allows for low-impact mooring and unmooring operations, both in terms of atmospheric emissions and noise pollution.”
“With the introduction of the motorship Ambrosiana – stated Pietro Marrapodi, Government Manager – the fleet of the Entity reaches 100 units, of which 35 are operational on Lake Como.”
Morelli highlighted the importance of the investment plan launched by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, stating: “Over 28.5 million euros invested in Lake Como for targeted and well-distributed interventions: from the redevelopment of the Dervio shipyard, for which 6 million euros are allocated, to the renovation of the ferry piers in Bellagio, Menaggio, Cadenabbia and Varenna, with 10 million allocated thanks to the collaboration with the Lombardy Region. Furthermore, the construction of a new 250-seat hybrid motorship, which will be ready by December, with an investment of 5.5 million euros, and the purchase of new engines and technologies to improve the fleet. Ambrosiana is an integral part of a broader design, of a Government Industrial Plan 2025–2029 which foresees over 110 million euros in investments by 2034, 7.3 million allocated to digital innovation, a staff strengthening up to 759 units, and solid economic forecasts, with estimated annual profits exceeding 3 million euros until 2035.”
