Another fleet is advancing towards the Gaza Strip to break Israel’s blockade and deliver humanitarian aid. The Freedom Flotilla Coalition, which set sail from Otranto, Italy on September 30th, is continuing its journey with 11 ships off the coast of Crete, an island belonging to Greece.
Representing a new civil initiative to break Israel’s illegal blockade on Gaza, following the Global Sumud Flotilla, the fleet consists of ships from the “Freedom Flotilla Coalition” and the “Thousands to Gaza Madleen” initiatives, including the Conscience ship which was repaired after being attacked off the coast of Malta in May.
The Conscience ship, which was targeted by a drone attack on May 2nd, an attack for which the organizers hold Israel responsible, carries dozens of international journalists and healthcare workers from 25 countries. The activists on this ship are trying to reach their colleagues, healthcare and media workers, in besieged Gaza.
The Conscience ship, now on mission after repairs and advancing towards Gaza along with ten boats from the “Freedom Flotilla Coalition” and “Thousands to Gaza Madleen,” also aims to break Israel’s media blockade, which enforces a media blackout by not allowing foreign press members to enter Gaza.
Raid also conducted on the last ship of the Global Sumud Flotilla
A raid was also reported on the ship named Marinette, the last ship of the Global Sumud Flotilla, which was continuing its journey towards the Gaza Strip, and from which Israel seizes all ships approaching the Gaza Strip and detains all its activists.
The Israeli army began raiding ships belonging to the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF), which was advancing towards Gaza with approximately 500 activists to deliver humanitarian aid, last evening. Approximately activists detained by the Israeli army were taken on board an Israeli warship and brought to Ashdod Port. The Israeli army announced that all ships in the flotilla, except for one, had been stopped, stating, “The last 1 ship is standing far away. If it approaches, an attempt to enter an active conflict zone and breach the blockade will also be prevented.”
