Energías de Technip wins the FLNG work in Africa

Must read

The France-based engineering and technology company, Technip Energies, has been awarded a work contract on an FLNG unit in Africa.

The company said the contract was for preliminary activities and was effective until the end of September. The client was not disclosed.

The French firm added it was a large award, placing it in the €250m to €500m ($292 million to $585 million) range. The award covers only preliminary activities. Additional order intake is expected to be booked with the full contract award.

“This order intake represents Technip Energies’ share of a joint venture and will be recorded in the Project Delivery segment backlog in the third quarter of 2025,” the company explained.

Although the client is not revealed, this deal comes just days after Samsung Heavy won an 869.4 billion won ($637 million) contract for preliminary work on the construction of an Africa-based FLNG unit. The preliminary agreement is, like Technip Energies’, expected to expire at the end of September.

Industry sources claim the facility is likely to be deployed at Eni’s Coral Norte project in Mozambique. If finalized, the deal is expected to be worth up to $2.5 billion.

Eni already has one FLNG in operation in Mozambique. The Coral Sul FLNG started exporting gas to Europe in 2022, and Technip Energies was also involved in that project.

Aside from Coral Sul, Technip Energies also worked on Malaysia’s PFLNG Satu and Australia’s Prelude FLNG. These three combined have a total capacity of 8.2 million tonnes per year.
