A.P. Moller – Maersk and Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited (CATL) have signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding to jointly advance decarbonisation across global supply chains and strengthen CATL’s international logistics.
The signing ceremony took place on October 9 in Hong Kong, attended by senior executives from both companies.
The agreement was signed by Morten Bo Christiansen, Senior Vice President and Global Head of Energy Transition at Maersk, and Akin Li, Executive President of Overseas Car Business at CATL. It was witnessed by Robert Maersk Uggla, Chairman of A.P. Moller – Maersk, and Libin Tan, Chief Customer Officer and Co-President of Sales & Marketing at CATL.
The memorandum builds on a five-year collaboration between Maersk and CATL covering ocean transportation, intermodal, and other logistics services.
Under the new agreement, Maersk will act as CATL’s preferred global logistics partner, providing integrated solutions that include ocean and air freight, project logistics, and warehousing. Both companies will also explore scalable models to strengthen supply chain resilience and tailor solutions for different markets.
The partnership also focuses on electrifying key logistics nodes using CATL’s battery technologies, covering areas such as container shipping, ports, inland transportation, and warehousing. These initiatives will be supported by system design, energy management, and battery recycling. CATL will serve as a preferred battery technology partner for Maersk’s decarbonisation strategy.
Maersk has set a target of achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions across its business by 2040. CATL aims to reach carbon neutrality in core operations by 2025 and across its battery supply chain by 2035.
