A Saint Kitts & Nevis-flagged Ro-Ro cargo vessel, the Elmes, developed a heavy port-side list alongside the Yıldız Shipyard within Istanbul’s Tuzla Shipyards Region on 9 October while undergoing mechanical repairs.
One Ukrainian worker, identified as Vlasyuk Yevgen, died at the scene after a ramp door fell on him; several other workers were injured and emergency services responded.
Authorities have opened an investigation, and the cause of the incident remains unknown.
The Elmes, built in 1997 and about 101 meters in length, was sailing under the flag of Saint Kitts & Nevis.
