Attendees included Mr. Tomas Wiklund, Senior Vice President of UPM; Li Ying, Vice President of Cinda Financial Leasing; Li Jichun, Chief Accountant of COSCO Shipping Specialized Carriers Co., Ltd.; Lai Lihua, Deputy General Manager of the Third Ship and Ocean Business Department of China Shipbuilding Trading Co., Ltd.; Zhang Yan, Executive Director, Party General Branch Secretary, and General Manager of Beijing COSCO Shipping Ship Trading Company; Wan Wan, Deputy Director of the Zhenjiang Office of China Classification Society; Liu Shengmin, Deputy General Manager of Tianjin Zhongsan Ship Management Company; Lu Jingwei, Assistant General Manager of the Beijing Branch of China Classification Society Industrial Co., Ltd.; Huang Junhui, Deputy General Manager of CSSC Chengxi; and Luo Fuxiang, Party Committee Secretary and General Manager of Yangzhou Company.

Madam Maria Wiklund, the naming sponsor, performed the champagne christening ceremony, successfully naming the No. 5 84,500-ton dry bulk carrier “CSPC VIRGO”. She wished the “CSPC VIRGO” smooth sailing and success in charting a new chapter on its voyages.

The “CSPC VIRGO” is the 20th newbuild vessel delivered by CSSC Chengxi in 2025. Since its construction began, the ship achieved main engine epoxy casting 7 days after the superstructure was hoisted, completed hot work and commenced engine room overhead coating 11 days after superstructure hoisting, finished hatch cover opening tests 15 days after launching, and achieved generator engine commissioning 24 days after launching. Overcoming adverse weather conditions such as high temperatures, the team remained focused on key milestones, ultimately achieving main engine commissioning one day ahead of schedule. The vessel proceeded to sea trials 55 days after launching, with a total construction period of only 282 days. The high-quality delivery was ensured through sophisticated technology and strict quality control.

During the construction process, CSSC Chengxi focused on value creation and deepened lean management principles, using the “Five Major Completions” as a key approach. By summarizing the construction and inspection experience from previous 84,500-ton vessels, the shipyard continuously advanced process stages, improved construction completeness at each phase, and truly realized “rhythmic production and commercial delivery.”
