The presidents of the National Confederation of Truck Owners of Chile, Juan Araya, and of the Federation of Transport Companies of Bío Bío, Germán Faúndez, expressed to the mayor of San Pedro de la Paz, Juan Carlos Spoerer, their concern about the tolls for the new Puente Industrial of Concepción and the need for alternatives for the passage of cargo vehicles.

The use of the bridge establishes tolls, but the ones known are estimated to be very high by the carriers, since many of them must cross several times a day. The trucks will be subject to a TAG of around $3,700, while light vehicles around $700. That, in addition to the traffic impact on the Pedro Aguirre Cerda avenue in San Pedro.

“The Puente Industrial must be a work that promotes the development of Bío Bío, not an economic barrier. The rates must be fair and consider the reality of those who move the regional economy,” expressed Faúndez, also vice president of the CNDC. The leader explained that the most affected will be the SMEs of transport, an estimated number of over 90% of the companies in the sector.

For this reason, he proposed that the charges be made gradually, so that the sector has time to adapt, and thus avoid conflict when the rate is implemented. Likewise, he indicated to Mayor Spoerer the need for an alternative roadway to the viaduct.

The meeting was considered by the leaders as constructive, since the municipal authority was very interested in resolving the complexities of the use of the bridge, its flows, and the normality of the logistics chain.
