On October 10, the 115,000-ton Aframax tanker “OASIS”, built by Wanlong Ship Heavy Industry Co., Ltd., was successfully launched.
This vessel not only became the largest ship ever built locally in Taizhou by setting a record for tonnage, but also ascended to become the “world’s largest ship launched via the airbag launching method”, establishing a new industry benchmark. The successful launch of this ship filled the gap in Taizhou’s large oil tanker construction sector at once. It marks a significant breakthrough in the development of the local shipbuilding industry and has injected strong new momentum into the high-quality development of Taizhou’s marine economy.
As a high-end ship type integrating advanced technology and green concepts, the “OASIS” was independently designed by the Shanghai Merchant Ship Design and Research Institute (SDARI) and is classed by the China Classification Society, allowing it to sail freely in unlimited international navigation areas. The ship has an overall length of 249.90 meters, a molded breadth of 44 meters, a molded depth of 21.5 meters, a design draft of 13.6 meters, a deadweight of up to 115,000 tons, a design speed of 14 knots, and cargo hold capacity that can easily load over 800,000 barrels of refined oil or crude oil.
The ship is a green vessel type integrating environmental protection, energy saving, safety, and economy. Through multiple measures such as comprehensive hydrodynamic performance optimization, configuration of hydrodynamic energy-saving ducts and vortex dissipation fins, and main engine selection optimization, SDARI has significantly improved the ship’s energy efficiency level. The ship’s Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) meets the IMO Phase III requirements, nitrogen oxide emissions meet IMO Tier III requirements, and it is specially equipped with an Exhaust Gas Cleaning System (EGCS desulfurization system), effectively achieving sulfur oxide emission reduction and truly realizing the parallel goals of “efficient operation” and “green environmental protection”.
Aframax tankers are widely used in the Black Sea basin, the North Sea, the Caribbean Sea, the China Sea, and the Mediterranean Sea. With their excellent performance and good carrying capacity, they have won the trust and favor of numerous industry clients.
The successful construction of the “OASIS” has provided Wanlong Ship Heavy Industry Co., Ltd. with valuable experience in building large vessels. In the future, Wanlong Ship Heavy Industry will take this opportunity to continue deepening its core technologies, strengthen its corporate competitiveness, and firmly practice a high-quality development path characterized by green, efficient, energy-saving, and environmentally friendly practices, contributing more corporate strength to Taizhou’s accelerated construction of a modern marine city and the promotion of quality improvement and upgrading in the marine economy.
