Extensive searches are underway in the maritime area between Amorgos and Astypalea, to locate a man who fell into the sea from a cargo ship flying the flag of the Marshall Islands.
According to the Hellenic Coast Guard, the searches are coordinated by the Unified Search and Rescue Coordination Center (ΕΚΣΕΔ) and involve a rescue vessel of the Coast Guard, a Super Puma type helicopter of the Air Force, as well as five passing ships operating in the area.
According to initial information, winds of 6 to 7 Beaufort are blowing in the area.
