Recently, a photo of the damaged part of the US Navy’s aircraft carrier USS “Truman” being deliberately covered up has gone viral on overseas social media.
According to a report by the US website “The War Zone,” on October 5th local time, US President Trump visited the Norfolk Naval Station to inspect the USS “Truman” and participate in the US Navy’s 250th-anniversary celebration.
On the port side of the USS “Truman,” located to the left of President Trump’s podium, a large US Navy flag was hung. It appeared to serve as a backdrop for the event, but in reality, it was used to cover the damage sustained by the aircraft carrier from a collision with a cargo ship in the Mediterranean Sea this past February.
In other words, eight months after the collision incident, the USS “Truman” has still not been repaired.
Foreign media cited US Navy statements, indicating that the Refueling and Complex Overhaul (RCOH) is expected to begin within the next 12 months. They explained that “the RCOH is a multi-year project, typically performed only once during a carrier’s 50-year service life. It includes refueling the ship’s two nuclear reactors and conducting other significant maintenance, upgrades, and modernization work.”
Additionally, according to a report by the US bimonthly website “The National Interest,” due to labor shortages in domestic shipyards and supply chain disruptions, the construction or repair schedules of at least 8 US Navy aircraft carriers and amphibious assault ships, including the USS “Truman,” have been forced to delay.
