Dualog has introduced a new digital tool called Quota, built to simplify how seafarers manage internet access onboard while helping ship operators keep networks secure and costs under control. The app replaces Dualog’s previous Crew Connection system and brings a modern interface that works across mobile, tablet, and desktop devices.
Quota lets crew members see their internet usage in real time. They can check how much data they have used, how much remains, and view daily breakdowns by carrier, including Starlink, VSAT, or 4G. Each seafarer can also manage multiple devices under a single account, ensuring fair access and better visibility.
One of Quota’s standout features is the ability to select which network to use for different tasks. Crew can choose Starlink for high-bandwidth activities like video calls or streaming, while reserving VSAT for emails or social media. Once their free data allowance runs out, they can buy additional data directly within the app. Purchases link automatically to the ship’s Crew Management System, allowing smooth payroll deductions without involving IT staff or the captain.
Vidar Berg, Product Manager at Dualog, said the goal was to reduce complexity for both seafarers and fleet managers. “Our goal was to make life easier for crew, vessel managers, and the IT department. The app reduces support needs by letting crew manage their own data, improves transparency, and helps ensure compliance with security policies,” he said.
The Quota app is part of Dualog’s broader network management and cybersecurity framework. It integrates seamlessly with any low Earth orbit or VSAT setup and supports features like DNS protection to strengthen digital safety onboard.
Silje Moan, Chief Commercial Officer at Dualog, said fair access is key to crew welfare. “Fair access to the internet onboard helps crew stay in touch with their families. Now seafarers can enjoy one solution with a consistent user experience, even when airtime vendors are fragmented,” she said.
Dualog plans to release further updates based on user feedback, including personal speed controls and company-specific customization options.
