COSCO Shipping Yangpu, the first domestically built methanol dual-fuel container vessel in China, docked safely at Yangshan Port on 5 October, according to China Marine Bunker (PetroChina) (Chimbusco) on Friday (10 October).
The vessel, fuelled by green methanol from Chimbusco, returned safely after successfully completing its maiden transpacific voyage to the US West Coast.
On 11 July, Chimbusco completed a green methanol bunkering of 1,000 metric (mt) for the COSCO Shipping Yangpu at the Shengdong Terminal in Yangshan Port.
On 15 July, at the Dalian Port, the company once again bunkered the vessel with 500 mt of green methanol, to support its maiden voyage on the US West Coast route.
According to Chimbusco, the vessel’s use of the green methanol supplied by the company reduced carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 2,062 tonnes per voyage, equivalent to 1,500 cars’ annual emissions and achieved near-zero sulfur oxide emissions.
Its domestically produced methanol dual-fuel engine performed well in its first onboard operation. Its large 11,100 cubic meter storage tank enabled the vessel to complete the transpacific voyage in pure methanol mode.
Chimbusco has established bunkering hubs in Dalian, Shanghai, Yangzhou, Ningbo and Zhoushan as well as in major domestic ports, building a methanol bunkering network along the Belt and Road Initiative.
