NANNING, Oct. 16 (CNS) — Wang Yongchao, mayor of Baise City in Guangxi, stated on the 16th in Nanning that Baise is fully advancing the construction of a number of major transportation infrastructure projects including “highways, railways, waterways, and aviation,” and is becoming an important hub for the two-way flow of logistics between the western region and ASEAN countries.
Wang Yongchao introduced at a press conference held by the Guangxi government that day that as a national-level key development and opening-up pilot zone along the border, Baise has in recent years seized opportunities such as the construction of the New Western Land-Sea Corridor and the deepening of China-ASEAN cooperation. It has continuously exerted efforts in areas like connectivity, open platforms, port economy, and people-to-people exchanges, comprehensively enhancing its level of open development.
Baise City is accelerating the creation of a three-dimensional transportation network. All border port expressways are connected, with the total expressway mileage reaching approximately 1,200 kilometers. Seven counties in Baise are connected by railway, and four counties are connected by high-speed rail. Baise Airport’s routes reach key cities in the Yangtze River Delta, Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, and Chengdu-Chongqing area. Next year, the navigation facility project of the Baise Water Control Hub will be completed simultaneously with the Pinglu Canal. Goods from Yunnan and other places will be able to reach the Port of Beibu Gulf directly by water, shortening the outbound distance by nearly 600 kilometers. The Huangtong-Baise Railway project is accelerating its construction. Upon completion, Baise Port is expected to become the “first port for cargo from Southwest China to ‘take to the water’ in Guangxi.”
Wang Yongchao stated that Baise will usher in a historic transformation from a “remote frontier” to a regional transportation hub and open forefront.
With Baise City being included in the scope of the China-ASEAN Industrial Cooperation Zone, the city has built and operated a number of major open platforms, including the Guangxi Aluminum Products Storage and Trading Center, the China-ASEAN Agricultural Products Trading Center, and the Pingguo Public Bonded Warehouse, and has been selected as a national backbone cold chain logistics base construction city.
In addition, Baise City is accelerating the cultivation of foreign trade economic momentum, speeding up the construction of smart ports, and innovating the “border residents’ mutual trade + local processing” model. The local processing rate for imported mutual trade goods has reached 99.1%, ranking first in Guangxi. In 2024, Baise City’s total foreign trade import and export value exceeded 44 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 34.5%. (End)
