Mixed were the feelings in the freight market for LNG carriers last week, with freight rates east and west of Suez recording opposite changes.

According to a report by the shipbroker Fearnleys, for the week ending Wednesday, October 15, the spot freight rates for LNG carriers in the Atlantic Basin (west of Suez) recorded an impressive rise, while in the Pacific Basin (east of Suez) they continued their downward trend. Specifically, west of Suez, freight rates are now set at $28,000 daily (+$6,000), while east of Suez at $24,000 daily (-$1,000).

Regarding the one-year time charter market, the chartering cost for an /XDF LNG carrier, with a carrying capacity of approximately 174,000 c.m., decreased by $1,000 and amounts to $34,000 daily.
