The Documentary Committee, one of the three main committees of the Baltic and International Maritime Council (BIMCO), held another one of its periodic meetings. The meeting, which was attended by representatives from the maritime sector from different countries as members, was held online this year. Attorney Selçuk Esenyel, Founding Partner of Esenyel Partners, participated as the representative selected from Turkey among the committee members.

At the meeting, various projects related to the maritime and renewable energy sectors, which are already on the committee’s agenda, were discussed in detail. Biofuels and carbon transportation were among the focal points of the meeting. CO₂TIME, a contract model for carbon transportation, was reviewed and evaluated by the committee members. Additionally, a new regulation draft containing standards for methanol fuels was presented to the members for approval.

“Representing Turkey allows us to be one of the shaping actors of the transformation”

Selçuk Esenyel, who represented Turkey at the meeting, made the following statement on the subject: “Studies on biofuels, carbon transportation, and alternative fuel standards are at the center of the maritime sector’s green transformation goals. Turkey’s representation on the BIMCO Documentary Committee ensures that we are not just followers of this transformation, but one of its shaping actors. Providing technical and legal contributions to new contract models such as CO₂TIME and methanol fuel regulations is a great responsibility and a source of pride for our country.”

The BIMCO Documentary Committee, which plays an important role in determining contract standards suitable for the evolving needs of the sector, will continue to hold new meetings in the upcoming periods.
