The Federation of Truck Owners of the Valparaíso Region (Fedequinta) repudiated and classified as an “attack” the event that occurred on the morning of Tuesday, October 21, when a group of individuals intentionally spilled oil on Camino La Pólvora, heading towards the city’s port facility. The union does not rule out mobilizing if the corresponding investigations and complaints are not carried out.

“We express our deepest repudiation and discomfort regarding the extremely serious attack of spilling oil on the route, which can only be interpreted in one way: to cause accidents on this route which is for public use, but is the obligatory route for heavy cargo trucks heading to Terminal Pacífico Sur (TPS) and Terminal Portuario Valparaíso (TPV), concessionaires of Empresa Portuaria de Valparaíso (EPV),” the group communicated.

“This reprehensible and extremely serious act was carried out with the intention of causing accidents to trucks, risking the lives of our drivers. This is of the absolute utmost concern for our union, as it is not the first time this route has been used to express demands. We understand that we can protest and exercise our right to demonstrate, but this form is something we do not accept nor will we accept,” the letter added.

Regarding the actions of the authorities, Fedequinta emphasized that “we expect concrete responses from the authority. It is not possible that the Presidential Delegate, despite our attempts to communicate with him to report this extremely serious terrorist act – because we cannot qualify it in any other way – has not even made a statement to this day.”

“Let the authorities take charge of this attack. We will exercise with all our strength the right to work in peace and security. We do not rule out mobilizations if solutions are not provided and investigations and complaints are not carried out against these criminals who caused this serious attack, which could have caused fatal victims on this important route,” it expanded.

It is worth mentioning that the oil spill caused a car accident. Given this situation, the union indicated that “the smaller vehicle that crashed was carrying children. What would have happened if a truck had crashed into this vehicle? We would be today once again lamenting the senselessness of criminals, because there is no other way to qualify them. This route has cameras along its entire length, therefore we hope that they are identified and arrested,” it concluded.
