Maersk revises Peak Season Surcharge from Asia-Pacific to Africa effective November 2025

Must read

Maersk announced a revision of its Peak Season Surcharge (PSS) for shipments from China, Hong Kong China, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan China, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar (Burma), Thailand, and Vietnam to South Africa and Mauritius.

The new surcharge will take effect on 1 November 2025 and will remain in place until further notice.

The updated tariff sets the PSS at USD 500 per 40HREF NOR container. For non-spot bookings, the rate is based on the Price Calculation Date, which refers to the scheduled departure date of the first water leg or the last container gate-in date, depending on the applicable regulation.

For spot bookings, the rate is calculated based on the first vessel’s estimated time of departure at booking confirmation.

Maersk also provided sample rate structures for shipments from Shanghai, China to Port Louis, Mauritius, showing detailed charges for dry, reefer, and special containers.

The PSS for these routes ranges from USD 500 to USD 1,000 per container.

The company noted that these rates may be subject to future change and that customers will be notified accordingly.

The revised surcharges apply in addition to other applicable fees, including local and contingency charges. Maersk stated that these rates do not affect tariffs published or filed under local regulatory requirements.

For trades covered by the US Shipping Act or China Maritime Regulations, only surcharges included in a filed service contract or amendment will be binding.
