The Port Authority of Castellón has approved a collaboration agreement with the Ecoalf Foundation and Ecoembes to promote and develop joint measures to combat marine litter and contribute to marine environmental sustainability, through the Upcycling the oceans project in the port of Castellón. The agreement aims to promote scientific knowledge about marine waste, analyzing its origin, composition and behavior in the coastal environment, in order to design more effective strategies for the prevention and reuse of materials.

The initiative also includes significant awareness-raising work, especially aimed at the fishing sector, to highlight the negative effects of marine pollution and recognize the work of those who actively contribute to keeping marine ecosystems clean. The agreement will be valid for four years plus four more extendable years. The three entities are committed to preventing the dumping of waste in the marine and coastal environment, developing environmental education and awareness campaigns and promoting the collection and proper management of packaging and waste recovered from the sea.
