Port of Vancouver USA extends alliance with Subaru of America

Must read

The Port of Vancouver USA announced the extension of its decades-long alliance with Subaru of America, Inc. (SOA). At its October 28 meeting, the commissioners approved SOA to remain on the premises until 2040. The company currently leases approximately 16.1 hectares at the facility and the new agreement expands this area to 17.4 hectares, allowing for more efficient logistics.

As a port tenant since 1993, SOA has driven job creation and local economic activity by importing vehicles to Vancouver. Subsequently, the automaker uses the terminal as a base to process and transport various models to destinations throughout North America. Prior to the extension, SOA’s lease at the port was set to expire on December 31, 2030.

“This partnership has endured various market changes for over 30 years, and we are extremely pleased that the connection between the Port of Vancouver (USA) and Subaru has been solidified until 2040. These types of strong agreements not only create and maintain local jobs, but also serve as pillars for long-term economic opportunities in our region,” said Julianna Marler, the port’s Chief Executive Officer.

“This long-lasting collaboration, based on mutual trust since 1993, supports local jobs and positions Subaru for future growth, as well as innovation with logistical operations that continue to meet our ever-evolving business environment,” said Lisa Quan, Vice President of Vehicle Planning and Logistics for Subaru of America, Inc.

Vehicles traveling by ship from Japan are unloaded at the port and processed by business partners at the facilities leased by SOA at the port. Accessories are installed and each unit is inspected to ensure it meets the brand’s quality standards. Once imported and processed, the vehicles are transported by rail and truck to destinations in the United States and Canada.
