The Port of Motril is holding talks with shipping companies and Moroccan and Spanish businessmen to reposition the maritime line with the Port of TangerMed, a historically competitive connection, which has recorded significant volumes of freight traffic.
A delegation from the Spanish terminal participated in the XI Hispano-Moroccan Business Meeting of the Maritime, Transport and Logistics sector, organized by the Official Chamber of Commerce of Spain in Tangier-Nador-Kénitra, with the aim of generating new business opportunities through meetings with established companies in the fields of logistics and transport.
The president of the Port Authority of Motril, José García Fuentes, highlighted during the meeting “the strategic position of the Port of Motril in the Southern Mediterranean, as a key point for export-import freight traffic between Europe and Africa”.
Under the slogan “Horizons 2030: Towards an intelligent and sustainable maritime and logistics connectivity”, this edition focused on the sector’s best practices and on the positioning of ports as essential connection nodes between both continents. In this context, the Port of Motril has presented its progress and its potential as a strategic enclave in southern Europe.
Within this framework, the Motril delegation held meetings to reposition the service with TangerMed, for which “the Port of Motril has exceptional conditions”, according to García.
The Port of Motril is a “multipurpose port” with activities and traffic ranging from general cargo (textiles, automotive and food, among others) via ro-ro transport; solid bulk, with the export of minerals from the mines in our area (iron, celestine, dolomite and gypsum); liquid bulk (fuels, molasses and fertilizers for agriculture) and project cargo (wind turbine blades).
In addition, an average of 250,000 passengers travel through its terminal per year, while cruise tourism attracts around 40 calls and 60,000 cruise passengers, activities that are growing above the national average, as of the end of the third quarter.
