The great return of a Greek shipping force to the shipyards is now a fact. After years of abstaining from new shipbuilding, the company is deciding to invest again in newbuild vessels, marking a new chapter in its strategy. This new venture is not only about fleet renewal but also about confidence in the prospects of the freight market and the long-term dynamics of Greek shipping.

The Greek container ship shipping company **Costamare** has proceeded with the order of two 3,100 teu capacity ships in China, thus raising the number of newbuild vessels it is expected to receive in the coming years.

The New York Stock Exchange-listed company stated in its third-quarter results report that the ships are scheduled for delivery in the first quarter of 2028 from an unnamed Chinese shipyard. Both ships will be time-chartered for eight years to a leading container shipping company.

The agreement raises **Costamare**’s total orders for 3,100 teu ships to six, confirming its return to the shipyards. Earlier this year, **Costamare** made its first new newbuild order since 2018, showing confidence in the long-term demand for mid-size container ship charters.

**Costamare**, owned by Konstantinos Konstantakopoulos, currently manages a fleet of 69 container ships, with a total capacity of approximately 520,000 teu. The company is steadily restructuring its portfolio following recent years of selective vessel sales and increasing investments in dry bulk carrier vessels.

The dry bulk carrier sector was spun off earlier this year under **Costamare Bulkers**, which included nearly 40 owned vessels and a fleet of approximately 50 chartered vessels operating through the **CBI** platform.
