FMC improves capacity to monitor container alliances and their pricing

Must read

New monitoring requirements from the FMC will force major container alliances to provide insights regarding their pricing on various tradelanes.

The three global container alliances – 2M, Ocean and The Alliance – will now be further obligated to provide capacity information.

New requirements are set to give the Bureau of Trade Analysis (BTA) of the US Federal Maritime Commission (FMC) insight into the pricing on various tradelanes by container and service type, the FMC writes in a press release.

This change is made after years of investigations by the BTA to find the data necessary to be able to analyze shipping companies’ behavior and tendencies.

The three alliances are already subject to monitoring requirements, encompassing, among other things, detailed operational data and meeting minutes, with the FMC now having the option to pursue matters of concern.
