The company justified the decision with the “current market conditions,” citing in particular economic pressures
Edinburgh – Shell has announced a further step back in its offshore wind development strategy, officially withdrawing from two offshore wind farm projects in Scotland. The two sites, which had been secured as part of the ScotWind leasing round, had a combined potential capacity of 2.1 Gigawatts. The company justified the decision with the “current market conditions,” citing in particular economic pressures, uncertainties related to the supply chain, and potential delays in grid connection. Shell was a partner of Scottish Power, a subsidiary of the Spanish group Iberdrola, in these initiatives. This withdrawal follows the abandonment, last July, of another major offshore wind project in the Netherlands (Hollandse Kust (west) VI), confirming a period of increasing difficulty and investment review in the renewable energy sector in Europe.
