On November 11th, the “Chonglun Jianghai 1,” Chongqing’s first river-sea direct vessel, invested by Chongqing Steamship (Group) Co., Ltd. and independently designed and built by Zhongjiang Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., set sail from Huangqi Port in Fuling, loaded with 5,000 tons of adipic acid from Fuling Huafeng Chemical, bound for Zhoushan, Zhejiang. This marked the beginning of a new, milestone chapter in Chongqing’s shipping history.
As the first river-sea direct vessel in Chongqing, the “Chonglun Jianghai 1” has an overall length of 130 meters, a beam of 16.2 meters, a depth of 8.85 meters, and a deadweight capacity of 10,000 tons. The vessel uses LNG as its single fuel source, employs an intelligent navigation system, and is equipped with a high-efficiency propulsion device. The energy-saving and emission-reduction effects of LNG are particularly outstanding, enabling near-zero emissions of sulfur oxides and reducing carbon and nitrogen oxide emissions by over 20%. Its safety, economy, and environmental performance all meet advanced domestic standards. Through optimization of the hull lines and rudder effectiveness, it can navigate flexibly in the complex waterways of the Yangtze River while also possessing the capability to withstand wind and waves at sea, achieving true “access to both rivers and seas.”
This maiden voyage opens a new river-sea direct route, breaking through the limitations of traditional river-sea intermodal transport and achieving “direct shipment by one vessel and a single bill of lading.” This will significantly enhance logistics efficiency between Chongqing and coastal regions, greatly shorten cargo transport time, and reduce overall logistics costs. According to estimates, the new route can save approximately 30% in transport time compared to traditional models. It provides a more convenient, economical, and efficient sea access channel for enterprises in Chongqing and surrounding areas, and holds profound significance for optimizing the business environment in Chongqing and even the western region, as well as enhancing industrial competitiveness.
“In the next step, we will continue to pursue our dream on rivers and seas, persistently building a dedicated river-sea direct fleet for Chongqing. This will further drive the industrial clusters in cities along the Yangtze River, promote the extension of the industrial chain, inject new vitality into serving national strategies and the green, high-quality development of the regional economy, release new momentum, and allow the Golden Waterway of the Yangtze to yield greater golden benefits,” said Luo Hua, General Manager of Chongqing Chonglun Shipping Co., Ltd.
