The Port Authority of Valencia (APV) has approved an administrative concession for Toyota Logistics Services Spain to operate a freight logistics terminal at the south quay of the Port of Sagunto, the company said in a news release.
The facility will handle the loading, unloading, storage, sorting, control, custody and transfer of new Lexus and Toyota vehicles, positioning Sagunto as the starting point for distribution across Spain and several European and Mediterranean destinations, including Portugal, France, Italy and Malta.
Rail will play a significant role due to the site’s proximity to the Mediterranean Corridor.
The Board also agreed to revoke the concession previously granted to Puerto Natura Valencia SL, a subsidiary of Baleària, for the operation of a passenger terminal. The decision is attributed to changes in traffic patterns, manoeuvrability requirements for new ships and the need to reassess connectivity with other ports.
Recent manoeuvrability studies indicated additional technical considerations necessary to ensure safe operations, prompting Valenciaport to rethink the entire passenger traffic area and undertake dock improvements.
The Port Authority of Valencia is a public body within Spain’s port system responsible for managing the ports of Valencia, Sagunto and Gandía. It oversees port infrastructure, administrative concessions, maritime services and coordination with national transport and customs authorities.
