Technology group Wärtsilä will expand its main spare parts distribution centre in Kampen, the Netherlands, by 40% and consolidate nearby leased storage facilities at the same site, the company said in a news release.

The company said the move supports the growth of its global service business, whose order intake increased by 68% between 2020 and 2024, driving higher spare parts demand.

The expansion aims to shorten delivery times, optimise logistics processes, and accelerate customer service. “Wärtsilä is a forerunner in shaping the decarbonisation of the marine and energy sectors… The expansion of our main spare parts distribution centre in Kampen enables us to accelerate global deliveries, enhance our services to customers, and improve logistics efficiency,” said Stefan Wiik, Vice President, Parts and Field Service.

Wärtsilä will invest EUR 14 million in the project, with construction scheduled to begin in early 2026 and commissioning planned for 2027.

The Kampen centre, established in 2009, is the company’s primary spare parts hub and part of its global logistics network, which includes six warehouses, 44 workshops, and 3,400 field service and workshop professionals. The facility has automated warehousing operations and ground storage for large components, and it incorporates eco-friendly packaging that has reduced plastic use by 67% compared with 2022, saving about 35 tons annually. All domestic truck transport from Kampen uses fossil-free HVO100 fuel, cutting CO₂ emissions by 90%.

Wärtsilä is a global provider of technologies and lifecycle solutions for marine and energy markets, operating in more than 230 locations across 77 countries. The company employs 18,300 people and reported net sales of EUR 6.4 billion in 2024.
