The last conventional boat from Piraeus to Aegina now departs at 17:00, leaving many residents practically cut off. For those who work or have health issues in Athens, this “cut-off” schedule seems more like an obstacle to survival than a transport service.

The intense reactions from the residents of Aegina were triggered by the winter schedules of the conventional boats, as the last departure from Piraeus on weekdays is only… at 17:00.

More specifically, the last departures from Piraeus to Aegina are at 5 in the afternoon from Monday to Thursday, at 6 on Friday, at 5 on Saturday, and at 18:45 on Sunday. There is also a hydrofoil at 6 in the evening.

The island of Aegina is inextricably linked with Piraeus and Athens, as residents are forced to travel and return to the island the same day for health reasons. There are many who visit doctors and hospitals, since, as is known, the infrastructure on Aegina is almost non-existent.

Beyond health issues, there are also those residents who work in Piraeus or Athens and have to commute daily to the island. With the last departure from Piraeus being so early, very serious problems are created for their movements, and it is now a matter of survival for some…

The island of Aegina, being close to the Attica basin, has become one of the most popular destinations in recent years. Unfortunately, however, the problems with the schedules are turning the island many years back, with the residents having to face a mountain this winter, if something doesn’t change with the schedules. Let’s hope those responsible understand the problem and solve it.
