The Galician naval community begins a new stage with the appointment of Beatriz Spuch as Dean of the Official College of Naval and Ocean Engineers (COIN) of Galicia and President of the Association of Naval Engineers of Spain (AINE) in the community, replacing Jorge Dahl. Spuch’s appointment was approved by the governing bodies of COIN and AINE, and her territorial team brings together professionals from the northern and southern areas of Galicia with a strong presence in the industrial sphere.

This renewal follows the change in leadership at the national level, with the appointment of a new Dean of COIN, Andrés José Molina, and a new president of the AINE Association, Luis Guerrero. It also coincides with the publication of the book *Semblanzas de la ingeniería naval en el País Vasco*, written by the Dean of the Basque naval engineers, José Luis Grijalvo.

The new Dean arrives accompanied by a new team which includes Juan Andrés Pérez, Maritime Captain of Vilagarcía, as vice-dean of COIN and vice-president of AINE. Furthermore, serving as members of COIN for the northern area are Basilio Puente, Sara Ferreño and Soledad Somoza; while in the southern area, the members are Adrián Mato, Jesús J. Castaño, Sandra Ventoso and Cinthia Gómez. Likewise, the new members of AINE are Adrián Mato, Jesús J. Castaño, Primitivo B. González and Sara Ferreño.

A Naval and Ocean Engineer from the Universidade da Coruña, Beatriz Spuch has extensive experience in strategic planning, port logistics and innovation, and brings an integrative vision oriented towards the global challenges of the sector. Her arrival represents a renewed impetus for a key profession in the industrial, technological and sustainable development of Galicia.

With more than two decades of career and international experience, including her work as an evaluator for the European Commission, the new Dean brings leadership focused on sustainability, digitalization and strategic planning. Her mandate will seek to strengthen links between professionals, companies, administrations and research centers, in addition to promoting training programs and meeting spaces that boost the competitiveness of the Galician naval sector.

In her first statements, Beatriz Spuch highlighted the need to “strengthen naval engineering as a strategic axis for Galicia,” promoting collaboration, innovation, the incorporation of new generations and a greater presence of women in the profession.
