Coastal Transportation has selected Inmarsat Maritime’s NexusWave service to modernise the digital backbone of its Alaskan cargo fleet. The company aims to strengthen cyber security and ensure uninterrupted vessel connectivity as operational demands increase.
For a family-owned operator moving refrigerated and general cargo between Seattle and Western Alaska, dependable communications are no longer optional. Coastal Transportation runs a schedule that relies on stable data links to manage inventory, maintain safety and give its crews consistent access to online services. With cyber threats rising across the sector, the company has chosen a fully managed solution designed to keep its ships connected in remote waters.
The Seattle based owner has signed an agreement with Inmarsat Maritime to deploy NexusWave across its fleet. Inmarsat Maritime, which is part of Viasat, describes the service as a bonded connectivity platform that blends multiple networks into a single managed offering. For operators trading between harsh and often isolated locations, the system promises global coverage and availability above 99.9 per cent.
Coastal Transportation sees the upgrade as a practical step toward a more resilient digital infrastructure. NexusWave’s design incorporates segregated networks and security features intended to reduce exposure to cyber risks. For vessels carrying perishable cargoes and detailed inventory lists, digital integrity is critical.

For Inmarsat Maritime, the agreement extends a long relationship with the owner.
