Start the design of the consolidation works for the second reclamation basin and the completion of the road and railway connections for the Darsena Europa. These are the priorities for the president of the Northern Tyrrhenian Sea Port System Authority, Davide Gariglio, who spoke this morning at the meeting of the Control Room convened by Prefect Giancarlo Dionisi.
After thanking the Prefect for establishing the Control Room (“which has the merit of coordinating the relevant actors”), Gariglio highlighted the necessity of realizing the project in its entirety.
“We are well aware that the works are proceeding diligently, thanks to the coordination activities carried out by the special commissioner Luciano Guerrieri and the entire structure of the Port System Authority” is the premise of the reasoning developed by the Port Authority President.
“As per the schedule, by June 2027 we will have the consolidation of the first basin, while by October 2030 the dredging works and the construction of the offshore dams will be completed. Pending the completion of these interventions, however, it becomes necessary to start as soon as possible the Technical Economic Feasibility Projects (PTFE) related to the consolidation of the second reclamation basin, the completion of the railway connections, and the extension of the FIPILI to the Darsena Europa,” stated the first resident of Palazzo Rosciano, who added: “The sooner we are able to have the projects, the sooner we will be able to know the cost of these works, so that we can start identifying the funding sources necessary for their start.”
Gariglio announced that he had received from the special commissioner for the project, Luciano Guerrieri, the willingness to accelerate the procedures for preparing the awarding processes for the PTFEs. “We absolutely must start these interventions, so that the Darsena Europa is fully realized” is the appeal that the first resident made to Commissioner Guerrieri, not without having thanked him for his effective support.
The president of the ports of Livorno and Piombino concluded his speech by recalling the strategic importance of the new movable bridge over the Scolmatore, which in the near future will allow all the yachts and superyachts from the shipyards located on the Navicelli Canal (which flows into the Scolmatore canal) to exit directly and easily into the open sea. “This is a fundamental project for which the money must be found. It is unthinkable that the operations of the Darsena Europa would be limited by this bottleneck. We must move decisively to find the resources, also appealing to the availability expressed by Minister Matteo Salvini during his visit to the port,” he concluded.
