The Xiamen Port Authority and the Ganzhou International Inland Port Management Committee signed a strategic cooperation agreement to jointly build a sea-rail intermodal container “golden channel” that is land-sea connected, efficient, and convenient, helping enterprises reduce costs and increase efficiency, and serving the high-quality development of the export-oriented economy in the Jiangxi-Fujian region.

This was a significant achievement at the “Ganzhou-Xiamen” Port Logistics Promotion Conference 2025, themed “Jiangxi-Xiamen Linkage, Land-Sea Co-prosperity”. The promotion conference was held on November 20 in Ganzhou, Jiangxi Province, aiming to implement the “Transport Power” strategic deployment, reduce social logistics costs, serve the dual domestic and international circulations, and promote the integrated development of ports and shipping. It attracted guest representatives from the fields of ports, railways, shipping, logistics, and manufacturing.

Complementary Advantages Expand Xiamen Port’s Economic Hinterland

Fujian and Jiangxi are connected by mountains and rivers and have integrated economies. Xiamen Port is one of China’s four major international shipping centers and an international container trunk hub port, as well as an important seaport for cargo import and export in the Ganzhou area. Ganzhou International Inland Port, as the eighth inland open port in China, possesses a logistics network and industrial base connecting the “Belt and Road,” and is a necessary route for Xiamen Port to extend into the central and western inland regions.

According to statistics, from January to October 2025, Xiamen Port completed a total sea-rail intermodal business volume of 133,100 TEUs, a year-on-year increase of 24.64%. From January to October this year, the Ganzhou-Xiamen Port sea-rail intermodal business volume reached 12,886 TEUs.

The signing of the agreement between the Xiamen Port Authority and the Ganzhou International Inland Port Management Committee marks a new stage of institutionalized and normalized cooperation between the two ports. Both parties will share resources, complement each other’s advantages, and innovatively carry out the dual-hub linkage model of “Sea Port + Inland Port.” Through measures such as sea-rail intermodal connectivity, coordinated port functions, interconnected logistics networks, and interoperable digital platforms, they aim to create an open pattern and logistics channel characterized by “internal and external linkage, two-way mutual support.”

At the conference, the Ganzhou-Xiamen Dual-Port Cooperation Office was inaugurated, establishing a coordination mechanism between the departments of the two ports to promote the implementation of cooperative matters and advance cooperation to deeper levels and broader fields.

Ren Guoyan, Permanent Deputy Commander of the Xiamen Port High-Quality Development Headquarters, and Party Secretary and Director of the Xiamen Port Authority, stated that in the future, both sides will take Xiamen Port as the hub and Ganzhou as the pivot to jointly build a three-dimensional, multi-faceted logistics and trade network connecting “inland – coastal – global.”

In recent years, Xiamen Port has used sea-rail intermodal transport as an important tool to continuously optimize the logistics structure, reduce supply chain costs, efficiently connect inland enterprises with the global market, and inject powerful momentum into promoting the dual domestic and international circulations. It has currently formed a sea-rail intermodal channel network with Xiamen Port as the main hub, Fujian and Jiangxi provinces as the main hinterland, extending inward to cover the central and western regions, and radiating outward to Southeast Asia and other regions.

Relevant personnel from Xiamen Port stated that the deepened cooperation between Xiamen Port and Ganzhou International Inland Port will further promote the inward movement of seaport functions and the outward extension of inland port services, drive the quality improvement and upgrade of sea-rail intermodal transport at Xiamen Port, expand Xiamen Port’s economic hinterland, increase cargo and container volume, and enhance Xiamen Port’s competitiveness among the port cluster on the southeast coast.

“Leveraging the superimposed policy advantages of both locations, Ganzhou International Inland Port will jointly build cross-border e-commerce consolidation centers and cold chain logistics distribution centers with Xiamen Port, allowing Gannan navel oranges and Southeast Asian fruits to achieve value multiplication through two-way exchange, and promoting deep integration and synergistic development of industries in both places,” introduced Huang Yufang, Executive Director of Ganzhou Inland Port Railway Operation Co., Ltd.

Seamless Connection Opens Fast Track for Jiangxi Goods to Reach the Sea

For enterprises located inland, a stable, efficient, and economical sea access channel is a “lifeline” for enhancing market competitiveness. How to “bring” the golden port to the doorstep of Jiangxi entrepreneurs? The deep cooperation between the two ports is a key move to solve this problem, helping characteristic industries from southern Jiangxi, such as furniture, electronics, and clothing, to reach the whole country and the world.

On November 18, accompanied by a long whistle, a sea-rail intermodal special train fully loaded with furniture, bamboo products, and doors and windows from Ganzhou slowly departed from Ganzhou International Inland Port, heading towards Xiamen Port, and subsequently boarding ships bound for Southeast Asia and Taiwan, China, among other places. This was the first export special train for the Ganzhou International Inland Port – Xiamen Port sea-rail intermodal “Single System” service. Under the “Single System” model, cargo transport involves “one-time entrustment, one bill through, one-time settlement,” and “one container through” for the entire journey, greatly simplifying operational procedures. The entire process is controllable and traceable, also reducing cargo damage rates and enhancing supply chain stability.

“In the past, our goods exports often required going through complex transport links and multiple transfer points, which not only increased time costs but also uncertainty,” said Liao Wei, Chairman of Ganzhou Xingbang Furniture Co., Ltd. Through the “Ganzhou-Xiamen” sea-rail intermodal model, furniture products take scheduled trains directly to Xiamen Port, seamlessly connecting to the global shipping network. This model significantly shortens the overall transport time, optimizes comprehensive logistics costs, enhances the reliability and stability of the supply chain, and strengthens the price competitiveness of the company’s products in the international market.

“The operation of this special train integrates the originally cumbersome traditional transport model into an economical, efficient, and stable international trade logistics channel, improving the transit time from the original 5 days to a fastest of 18 hours, and reducing logistics costs by about 30%,” introduced Xing Caifu, Executive Deputy General Manager of Xiamen Penda International Freight Co., Ltd. The launch of the Ganzhou International Inland Port – Xiamen Port “Single System” special train has opened a fast track for Jiangxi goods to go overseas, injecting new momentum into the industrial layout and development of the open economy in Ganzhou and even Jiangxi Province.

Furthermore, at this promotion conference, the Ganzhou International Inland Port inland container return point of SITC Container Lines Co., Ltd. was inaugurated. In the future, local export manufacturers will not need to pick up or return empty containers from coastal ports; they can do so directly at the Ganzhou Port yard, greatly reducing land transport costs and scheduling complexity, effectively enhancing the convenience of the Ganzhou-Xiamen logistics channel, and further optimizing the business environment.

In the next step, Xiamen Port will promote the connection between the Ganzhou International Inland Port “Digital Inland Port” platform and the Xiamen Port “Single Window” system, push for the increased frequency and upgrade of the “Ganzhou-Xiamen” train service, promote the application of the “Single System” for multimodal transport, and facilitate customs transfer and direct clearance measures such as “one-time declaration, inspection and release in both places,” aiming to build a land-sea logistics channel with lower costs, better service, and higher efficiency, allowing more “Jiangxi Made” and “Ganzhou Quality Products” to efficiently and conveniently go global.
