A dramatic night passed at the port of Los Angeles, as the 335-meter-long container ship ONE Henry Hudson caught fire below deck, resulting in an emergency situation being declared at the large US West Coast port.
On November 21, 2025, 6:38 p.m. Local time, a fire broke out on the ship due to an electrical problem, followed by an explosion that shook the ship and cut off the power supply. More than 180 firefighters, hazardous materials response teams, ship crews and port authorities were battling the fire.
All 23 crew members were located safely without injuries, thanks to the coordinated efforts of LAFD, Long Beach Fire Department, Port Police and the US Coast Guard.
During the night, the ship was towed out to sea to reduce the risk to the surrounding area. Firefighters continue efforts to extinguish the fire in the approximately 40 burning containers on the ship.
The investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.
