The Port of Tarragona has presented its port-city strategy and its relationship with the territory at the 20th edition of the World Conference Cities and Ports held in New York. The president of the Port Authority of Tarragona, Santiago J Castellà, participated in a round table on social and territorial integration, where he highlighted the main objectives achieved over the last three decades in the process of opening up the port and explained the actions being carried out, focused on the protection of biodiversity, the commitment to a diverse and high-quality cultural program, and collaboration with the territory to find agreements that allow for addressing present and future challenges.
Castellà explained that the port has a clear public service vocation and works to meet the needs of the territory. “Administrations have the duty to find the necessary balances to address social needs,” stated the president of the Port of Tarragona, who added that “we must look at ports from a human and humanist perspective,” said Santiago J Castellà. For the president of the Port Authority, this perspective must guide the relationships of ports with their communities.
