An medium-range product tanker owner is using artificial intelligence to safeguard the integrity of its fleet
Ardmore Shipping is using an application driven by artificial intelligence (AI) to monitor corrosion on its fleet of medium-range product and chemical tankers, which range from 25,000 to 50,000 dwt.
The New York-listed owner, with an executive office in Bermuda, has deployed SteelCorr’s Digital Paint Report (DPR), an AI-powered application, to help tanker crews to track corrosion and manage paint condition. This tool analyses images uploaded by crew members to automatically generate corrosion reports, identify issues and optimise maintenance planning and inventory control.
“Adoption of the SteelCorr app reflects our commitment to integrating smart, data-led solutions into the core of our shipmanagement operations,” said Ardmore Shipping senior manager for fleet operations, Suraj Batra.
“It enables faster, more informed decision-making, strengthens collaboration between ship and shore, and ensures we stay proactive in safeguarding the condition of our fleet.”
DPR improves consistency and accuracy in fleet condition monitoring, while reducing manual reporting time and enabling more efficient workflows. This frees up crew time to focus on higher-value operational priorities, said Mr Batra.
“It is a tool that enhances how our seafarers work, reducing manual workload while supporting real-time operational excellence.”
Ardmore’s digitalisation voyage also includes an energy transition plan for reducing consumption and emissions, and strengthening resilience across its business.
