The president of the AdSP of the Southern Adriatic Sea, Francesco Mastro, and the special attorney of “Italiana Petroli S.P.A.” (IP), Giovanni Iapella, signed a formal deed yesterday, with the maintenance of the Single ZES Authorization, relating to the concession of an area of almost 19 thousand square meters near quay number 12 of the port of Barletta, for the purpose of proceeding with the restructuring, expansion, and functional adaptation of the fuel depot located on the Tramontana pier.
The deed provides for the construction of additional tanks in the area already occupied on the Head of the Tramontana Pier and the commitment by IP to dismantle the tanks located at the root of the Commercial Pier, quay 3, thus freeing the area closest to the city.
The works for the execution of the projects must be carried out substantially in compliance with the time schedule that IP must present by March 31, 2026 and must be completed by December 31, 2028. The decommissioning activities of the plants, currently located on quay no.3, however, must be completed by December 31, 2029
This is an intervention that will radically change the appearance of the port, making it more attractive, safe, and high-performing. Furthermore, through the concession of such a vast operational area, IP will be able to implement and optimize its plant, confirming the Company’s interest in investing further in the area.
“Finally, we are beginning to write a new history for the port of Barletta,” comments President Mastro, “in line with the announced planning. The dismantling of the tanks from the inner port, in fact, will make the port more attractive and will allow us to promote Barletta as a destination for the luxury cruise segment. The skyline with the nearby Swabian Castle will also certainly benefit. In short,” Mastro concludes, “we are taking a decisive step forward for a more modern, orderly, functional, and safe port.”
The new hub will be built by IP in the Petroleum Area indicated by the current PRG of the port and located at a greater distance from the inhabited center compared to today.
“We are proud to have reached a long-term Concession Agreement, which strengthens the existing bond between our Company and the city of Barletta, which began back in 1956. The project presented by us will lead to the completion of what was started with the construction of the Tramontana Depot, allowing the handling of all energy products to be concentrated in a single, technologically advanced hub. From the beginning, we firmly believed in the strategic importance of the project, aware that this intervention could enhance the port area for the benefit of the entire Barletta community,” stated the operations manager Giovanni Iapella on behalf of Italiana Petroli.
Currently, the depot operates in the state-owned maritime area of the commercial port of Barletta, in an area adjacent to the maritime pier where tankers dock for the supply of diesel and gasoline from the api Refinery in Falconara Marittima. It includes the reception, storage, additive blending, and shipment of gasoline and diesel. The reception of gasoline and diesel occurs via a tanker connected by a pipeline. The fuel canopy has only bottom loading, is in a metal structure resting on buried plinths, and features, at ground level, a concrete platform equipped with grated drainage channels.
