The port of Tarifa and more specifically the monument of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, has been the setting since February for a project for its structural health monitoring with the objective of seeing the structural behavior of the monument under wave actions. This milestone is part of the Plan for the Conservation and Enhancement of the Port Historical Heritage by the Port Authority of the Bay of Algeciras. Thanks to this project, the monument will have a continuous structural monitoring service and analyze the evolution of the displacements and settlements of the sculpture, have thresholded information on risk and vulnerability levels, and obtain a precise stability diagnosis for preventive decisions.

In short, the project has a clear objective: to protect the integrity of one of the most emblematic heritage elements of the port through early and reliable information. Thanks to the conservation and innovation teams of the Port Authority of Algeciras and to Ideltec, whose collaboration made the work at height possible. Likewise, the port of the Bay of Algeciras, with the objective of guaranteeing the conservation of the monument at all times, wishes to analyze non-intrusive solutions for measuring and controlling the movements of the sculpture. The main objective is to implement a movement control system that allows the behavior of the structure to be known.
