Maersk is ready to resume sailing through the Suez Canal and the Red Sea as soon as conditions allow, says CEO Vincent Clerc. But he will not set a date for when this can happen.

The announcement from Vincent Clerc comes after the Suez Canal Authority previously announced that Maersk plans to return to the Suez Canal in early December.

However, Maersk says that the shipping company “In light of the significant progress on both fronts, will take steps to resume sailing and over time normalize the navigation of this route”.

The shipping company emphasizes that the absolute priority for Maersk will always be the safety of the crews.

The French shipping company CMA CGM recently sent the 17,859 TEU container ship CMA CGM Benjamin Franklin through the Suez Canal and the Red Sea. The shipping company has reportedly decided to return to the Suez Canal in full during December.
