PortCastelló consolidates its positive evolution in 2025 and maintains sustained growth that contrasts with the general stagnation of the Spanish port system. Between January and October, the Port of Castellón moved 15,632,516 tons, which represents an increase of 5.85% compared to the same period the previous year, while the state ports as a whole recorded a decrease of 2.4%.
In liquid bulk, PortCastelló grew by 8.3%, well above the 0.2% for the state as a whole. In solid bulk, the 3.2% increase contrasts with the 4.5% drop in Spain. General cargo advanced by 4.9%, compared to the slight 0.2% national decline. And containerized general cargo rose by 8% in Castellón, while in the rest of the system it fell by 2%.
Especially notable is the performance of container traffic, which recorded a growth of 22.5% in PortCastelló, compared to 2.4% for the port system as a whole. This result places the port of Castellón among the most dynamic logistics nodes in the Mediterranean.
The president of the Port Authority of Castellón, Rubén Ibáñez, highlighted that these figures “confirm that the Port of Castellón is moving in the right direction: we are growing more, we are growing better and we are doing so in a balanced way across all traffic types.”
Furthermore, he stressed that this performance is based on “a clear strategy, aimed at modernizing terminals, improving processes, attracting new shipping lines and reinforcing the confidence of shipping companies.”
The president recalled that PortCastelló “is implementing decisive measures, such as the reorganization of terminals to gain versatility, the agreements reached with stevedoring to improve productivity, and commercial work in strategic markets such as Turkey and Algeria.”
For Ibáñez, “the sum of all this effort explains why PortCastelló is growing while the port system is stagnating. We are a reliable, competitive port with an increasingly international projection.”
With this performance, PortCastelló confirms its position as one of the most dynamic ports with the best traffic balance in the Spanish port system.
