The Danish lawyer Eddie Omar Rosenberg Khawaja has, on behalf of seven Syrian citizens, filed a police report against Dan-Bunkering and Bunker Holding for having committed war crimes by supplying jet fuel that allegedly was used by Russian aircraft in airstrikes in Syria in 2016.
“In my opinion, the material included in my clients’ report clearly shows that Dan-Bunkering entered into an agreement with two Russian state-controlled companies, after which the fuel was supplied, unloaded, and transported to Syria for use by Russian and Syrian aircraft that carried out attacks in direct violation of international humanitarian law in Syria,” Eddie Omar Rosenberg Khawaja tells Danwatch, which, together with Ekstra Bladet, is covering the report.
In 2021, Dan-Bunkering and Bunker Holding were fined 30 million and 4 million kroner respectively by the Court in Odense for violating the sanctions against Syria by supplying jet fuel that the companies should have known would end up in Syria. However, there is no certain knowledge of how and when the fuel was specifically used.
It is USTC that owns Dan-Bunkering and Bunker Holding, and here, CEO Nina Østergaard calls the report for war crimes “absurd”.
“It is a severe accusation that is miles away from reality, and I frankly find it completely out of proportion,” writes Nina Østergaard in a post on LinkedIn.
“Therefore, I am tempted to believe that for Ekstra Bladet in particular, this is, as usual, about them wanting to keep a smear campaign against our companies and my family alive, regardless of the human consequences.”
