Roma Cruise Terminal celebrated the inauguration of the Donato Bramante Terminal, a new cruise facility completed in less than one year from the start of construction. This new infrastructure, the second one built by the company participated by Costa Crociere, Msc Crociere and Royal Caribbean Cruises, represents “a strategic step to consolidate the role of Civitavecchia as one of the main cruise hubs in Europe,” reads a note. The terminal, designed by Studio Vicini of Genoa and Sisco Ingegneria of Civitavecchia, was conceived to host large cruise ships and guarantee state-of-the-art services.

Among the main features are a
Check-in hall with 23 stations, expandable up to 46,
30 information screens for real-time updates on itineraries and services,
cruise bar dedicated to passenger welcome, environments enriched with reproductions of the most iconic places in Rome and Civitavecchia.

As part of the project, several interventions on the dock were completed including: installation of Lan columns, new 300-tonne bollards and widening of the dock from 9 to 22 meters to improve maneuvering operations. The project involved 20 companies, of which 10 were local, generating a significant impact on the economy of Civitavecchia and Lazio. The cruise industry in the port produces approximately 200 million euros in economic spillover each year and employs over 2,300 people.

John Portelli, general manager of Roma Cruise Terminal, stated:
“Since 2007 we have handled almost 42 million passengers. The Donato Bramante Terminal is the concrete testimony of the commitment of our shareholders – Costa Crociere, MSC /Marinvest and Royal Caribbean Cruises – to the growth of the port of Civitavecchia and the entire territory.”
