According to foreign media reports, on November 28 local time, shipping company ONE issued a notice stating that after the fire incident on the container ship “ONE Henry Hudson” at the Port of Los Angeles, USA, the shipowner has officially declared general average.
In the notice, the shipowner has appointed Richards Hogg Lindley as the average adjuster. They will be responsible for fully coordinating the collection of general average guarantees and other relevant documents, and guiding customers through the process of providing the necessary general average guarantees and documents.
However, the contact information for the appointed average adjuster has not yet been released. In the notice, ONE earnestly requests all cargo owners (or their insurance companies) to directly contact the appointed average adjuster and promptly submit guarantees and other relevant documents. It is particularly important to note that cargo will not be released until customers have completed the necessary arrangements with the average adjuster.
According to the U.S. Coast Guard on Wednesday evening, the container ship that anchored outside the breakwater of the Port of Los Angeles last Friday was towed back to the dock on Wednesday evening. The ship had previously experienced a fire.
During the ship’s return to port, no flames or heat signals were reported from the containers that had previously caught fire.
The container ship “ONE Henry Hudson” has now safely returned to port and is currently shifting focus to inspecting the onboard cargo and handling the wastewater discharged from the ship’s hold during the firefighting operation.
Captain Stacey Crecy, U.S. Coast Guard Incident Commander, stated: “The safe navigation and smooth return of this ship to port demonstrates the sustained partnership within the Unified Command and among the supporting agencies that have been working around the clock since the incident began. Our top priority remains ensuring the safety of the public and all personnel involved in the operation. We will persist until the mission is complete.”
The fire on the container ship “ONE Henry Hudson” broke out on the evening of Friday, November 21, with the initial firefighting efforts involving nearly 200 firefighters. In the early hours of Saturday, the ship was towed to an anchorage outside the port breakwater, where firefighting efforts continued.
No injuries were reported in this incident, which is the latest in a series of serious fires on container ships; such fires often take weeks or even months to fully extinguish. The U.S. Coast Guard and the National Transportation Safety Board are jointly investigating the cause of the accident.
The Panama-flagged “ONE Henry Hudson” is operated by Ocean Network Express (ONE).
The container ship “ONE Henry Hudson” has a total length of 336 meters, flies the Panamanian flag, and ship registry data shows the shipowner is Fukujin Kisen Co., Ltd., located in Imabari City, Ehime Prefecture, Japan. The Associated Press reported the operator is One Ocean Express, headquartered in Singapore.
