Cargo flows on China’s Western Land–Sea Corridor cross 5 Million TEU

Must read

China’s Western Land–Sea Corridor has transported 5.003 million TEU since 2017, according to data from China Railway Nanning Group provided by the operator. As of 29 November 2025, the corridor’s rail–sea services handled 1.308 million TEU this year, up 55.3% year on year.

Flows in both directions remain balanced: about 657,000 TEU moved inland from the Beibu Gulf ports (Qinzhou, Fangchenggang), while 651,000 TEU travelled in the opposite direction, with both figures increasing by more than 50% annually.

Exports include chemical products, components and new-energy vehicles produced in Sichuan, Chongqing and Guangxi. Imports comprise bauxite, coal, grain, as well as pulp, lithium concentrate and rubber from Thailand, Mozambique and Indonesia.

The number of regular services has grown from two in 2019 to 26 in 2025, linking Chengdu, Chongqing and Guiyang with the Beibu Gulf ports and connecting to China–Europe Railway Express routes. The Qinzhou Port East station set new operating highs, processing up to 1,405 wagons per day. In the first three quarters of 2025, imports and exports through the corridor reached 611.5 billion yuan.

The logistics network covers 1,316 product categories, 127 countries and regions, and 577 ports. Earlier, China Railway Nanning Group representative Zhao Jian said cargo turnover was growing at the fastest pace since the service was launched, and the annual target of more than 1.3 million TEU has already been effectively met.

China Railway Nanning Group is a regional railway operator established in 2017 on the basis of the former Nanning Railway Administration. It is responsible for organizing rail transport in Guangxi and adjacent areas and manages rail links serving the Beibu Gulf ports.
