The United States is the preeminent exporter of corn, up to today for 2025, according to AXSMarine. Since the start of the year, corn exports from the US exceed 61 million metric tons in volume, marking an increase of 45% compared to the corresponding period of 2024. In this way, the US accounts for 43% of the total corn export activity for 2025.
Meanwhile, Brazil is the second largest exporter of corn for the current year. The Latin American country has exported approximately 32 million metric tons since the start of 2025, capturing a market share of 22.6%. Although the volume exported by Brazil is certainly impressive, it does not exceed that of the corresponding period in 2024, recording a drop of 16.5%.
The volume exported by Argentina is also noteworthy. From January 1st until today, this volume stands at 29.2 million metric tons of corn. Compared to last year, corn exports have increased by 5.7%, and, as a result, the Latin American country covers almost one-fifth of this market for this year.
It is characteristic that only the three aforementioned countries hold 86.3% of sea-borne corn exports for 2025. It is noted, however, that sea-borne corn exports this year have recorded a broader decline of 2.1%. Specifically, countries active in this trade, such as Ukraine and Romania, have recorded a decline in their exports on an annual basis, by 54.6% and 47.1% respectively.
