The Port of Barcelona’s Efficiency Network Quality Mark continues to advance in the railway sector with the aim of extending its commitments to all modes of transport. Seven railway operators at the Port of Barcelona have authorized the Efficiency Network to analyze their internal processes with the goal of improving service quality and optimizing the traceability of rail transport.

The companies with which this new stage has begun are ADIF, Hutchinson Port BEST, APM Terminals Barcelona, Synergy, Transports Portuaris, CMA-CGM and Cosco. The tests are being carried out using the indicator model developed by Efficiency Network and agreed upon with the working group of the Port of Barcelona’s Rail-Port Community, a tool designed to measure and audit service quality.

The Efficiency Network began working in the field of container rail transport two years ago to promote more sustainable and competitive intermodality at the Port of Barcelona. On one hand, the aim was to encourage the transfer of containers from truck to train, thereby improving the sustainability of logistics operations while also reducing their costs. On the other hand, the goal was to extend the commitments of the Quality Mark to the entire logistics chain up to the end customer.

Upcoming Additions

The incorporation of the seven new companies, to which more will be added in the coming months, was presented at a working meeting held last week at the Port of Barcelona. The meeting discussed the progress made in the traceability and reliability of rail transport and evaluated the joint effort made by this sector to raise efficiency and transparency standards in the rail logistics chain.

During the working meeting, the complex situation of construction works currently affecting container rail transport with origin /or destination at the Port of Barcelona was analyzed, and aspects for potential progress were outlined. Work is currently underway to improve the quality of information and traceability, ensuring that, even in a context of transformation, the commitment to improvement and transparency in rail transport is maintained.

The involvement of the Port of Barcelona’s rail-port community to incorporate the commitments of the Efficiency Network Quality Mark represents a decisive step towards understanding and guaranteeing service quality in rail transport to the port and strengthening its intermodal logistics offering.
