Maersk will apply an adjustment to the Peak Season Surcharge (PSS) for routes from the Indian subcontinent and the Middle East to the East Coast and Gulf of the United States and Canada. The measure will take effect on January 1, 2026, and will remain in force until further notice.
The new tariff scheme establishes a surcharge of USD 2,000 per 20-foot and 40-foot dry container for shipments from Northwest India, Nepal, and Bhutan to all destination ports, except Houston.
For cargo from India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Nepal, and Bhutan destined for Houston, the surcharge will be USD 2,200 per freight container, while shipments from South and East India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Maldives to other ports will also have a cost of USD 2,200.
In the case of Pakistan, the surcharge is set at USD 2000, and for Gulf and Middle Eastern countries such as the United Arab Emirates, Yemen, Oman, Iraq, Kuwait, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Bahrain, the value will likewise be USD 2,000 per container.
Regarding reefers, the adjustment includes a surcharge of USD 2,400 for shipments from Indian ports such as Kattupalli, Ennore Chennai, Kolkata, Visakhapatnam, Tuticorin, Mangalore, and Cochin. For Pakistan, the cost will be higher, reaching USD 3,500 per unit.
Meanwhile, for countries such as Bhutan, United Arab Emirates, Nepal, Oman, India, Yemen, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Kuwait, Sri Lanka, Jordan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Maldives, and Iraq the surcharge is set at USD 2,000.
The company clarified that these rates are subject to other applicable surcharges, including local and contingency charges, and do not affect rates notified or filed in accordance with local regulations.
Furthermore, it recalled that on routes subject to the US Shipping Act or the China Maritime Regulations, any variation will only be binding if it is included in service contracts filed with the Federal Maritime Commission (FMC) or the Shanghai Shipping Exchange.
With this measure, Maersk aims to maintain the continuity of its global services during a period of high demand, ensuring transparency in the application of its rates and surcharges.
