Kuehne+Nagel reports that strikes in the Port of Chattogram (Chittagong) escalated to a 24-hour action, impacting all operations in the facility.

Port workers have declared that the strike will be indefinite as of 3 February.

The disruption resulted in a complete cessation of port operations, including the loading and unloading of containers.

Delays in container handling and vessel movement are expected the longer the labour action remains.

Operations at Chattogram Port, Bangladesh, have been affected by a labour strike that commenced on Saturday, 31 January 2026.

According to the latest update, the strike remains in effect, halting operations from 08:00 to 16:00 local time.

The action stems from opposition to the decision to lease the New Mooring Container Terminal.

Kuehne+Nagel reports that activity at container terminals CCT and NCT terminals has not fully ceased but is progressing at reduced efficiency.

However, the disruption has resulted in a complete standstill at the General Cargo Berth, where cargo handling cannot proceed due to the absence of available labour.

Inter‑terminal transfers between CCT, NCT and the General Cargo Berth remain suspended, limiting the movement of containers.

Gate services for trailer entry and exit have also been halted entirely, creating congestion inside the port area.

These operational restrictions are expected to affect vessel handling and cause delayed vessel waiting times by one to two days.
