Cumhurbaşkanı Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’ın Türkiye’ye resmi ziyarette bulunan Cezayir Cumhurbaşkanı Abdülmecid Tebbun ile düzenlediği basın toplantısı öncesinde perşembe günü gazetecilerin sorularını yanıtlayan Enerji ve Tabii Kaynaklar Bakanı Alparslan Bayraktar, “Cezayir LNG’sinin Türkiye üzerinden özellikle Güneydoğu Avrupa’ya gidişiyle alakalı birlikte çalışabiliriz diye bir konumuz var. Bu sene içerisinde yeni bir anlaşmayla yapabiliriz diye ümit ediyoruz. Mevcut anlaşmamız Eylül 2027’de bitiyor zaten. Dolayısıyla onu yenilemeyi hedefliyoruz” dedi.

According to Bloomberg, Bayraktar stated that if an agreement is reached, Algerian LNG could be gasified in Turkey and then sent to Europe via Bulgaria. Turkey can provide a gas flow of 3.5 billion cubic meters per year to Bulgaria. Turkey believes this figure could be doubled if European countries invest.

Under its current agreement with Algeria, Turkey receives 4.4 billion cubic meters of LNG per year from that country. Minister Bayraktar stated that this figure could be increased to 6-6.5 billion cubic meters, adding, “We can make our agreement period 5 years, 10 years. We said we are ready for this. Europe cannot give them a long-term commitment.

Therefore, we said ‘be at ease’, we can give it to you.” Bayraktar said they hope a new agreement will be reached between the two countries within this year.

According to information provided by Minister Bayraktar, another agenda item between Turkey and Algeria is the cooperation of the country’s national oil company, Turkish Petroleum Corporation, with Algeria’s national company Sonatrach on oil and natural gas exploration in Algerian seas. Bayraktar noted that Turkey’s seismic vessels and drilling ships could operate in Algerian waters.

Turkey will carry out its first deep-sea exploration drilling abroad in Somalia. After long seismic studies, Turkey’s drilling vessel Çağrı Bey had arrived in Somalia last month. Turkey has also been preparing for seismic studies with Pakistan and Libya for a long time.
