In the new version of the text, the share capital of the future body for the direction and coordination of maritime ports is significantly reduced.
Notifying a substantial reduction in the expected share capital of the future Porti d’Italia spa, the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, signed the bill of May 6, 2026, approved by the Council of Ministers shortly before Christmas, “on the reorganization of Law No. 84 of January 28, 1994, concerning port governance and the relaunch of investments in strategic maritime transport infrastructure of general interest.”
The signature of the Head of State follows the green light from the State General Accounting Office on the financial coverage of the measure. The bill will now go to the Chamber of Deputies to begin the approval process. The text has been modified in many points compared to the document approved by the Council of Ministers on December 22, 2025. In particular, the capital of Porti d’Italia spa, initially set at 500 million euros, drops to just 10 million. Consequently, the expected resources from levies on the revenues of the Port System Authorities also change significantly. In any case, it is thought that the company will not be established before next year.
