During the afternoon hours yesterday, the Port Authorities of Poros and Methana were informed by the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (J.R.C.C.) of the Hellenic Coast Guard (H.C.G.) about an incident of grounding of a yacht (Y/T) with two foreign nationals on board (Iranian nationals) in the sea area of the islet “LAZARETO” near the entrance of the port of Poros.
A patrol vessel of the Hellenic Coast Guard (P.V.), the passenger ferries “LIAKOS” N.P.21 and “JOHN AKIS” N.P.22, as well as a private diver rushed to the scene, where it was ascertained that the Y/T had water ingress. The occupants of the Y/T were collected by the P.V. and transported to the port, in good health. Efforts to refloat the said vessel were made with negative results, while a floating boom was placed preventively around the yacht, at the expense of the Municipal Port Fund of Poros. A preliminary investigation is being conducted by the Port Authority of Poros. No marine pollution was observed from the incident.
