Mr. Venetopoulos emphasized the importance of restoring dialogue between the State and professionals of the sector, while also raising three critical issues that – as he said – directly affect maritime tourism and the country’s competitiveness. First, he referred to the operation of the Corinth Canal, noting that, although it is not a direct responsibility of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs, it decisively affects the tourism sector and maritime movements. Second, he focused on the issue of anchorages and marine parks, asking that yachting professionals participate in the planning of relevant policies, while he also made special reference to the issue of berthing, thanking the port of Lavrio for the hospitality and support it provides to professional tourist vessels.
The importance of the new digital system “e-Nafolosymfono” not only as a tool for reducing bureaucracy but also as a mechanism for creating a reliable database for maritime tourism was highlighted by the president of the Association of Owners of Tourist Professional Vessels Without Crew (SITESAP), Efthymios Bibis. He characterized the application as “very important” for the maritime tourism sector, recalling that the first discussions about the electronic charter agreement had started as early as 2016.
“We have now reached the point of having an application that we tested from April and which covers the needs and will greatly help the sector,” he stated characteristically. The president of SITESAP stressed that “e-Nafolosymfono” is not limited only to reducing bureaucracy and simplifying departure procedures, but for the first time creates a substantial database for Greek maritime tourism.
As he explained, the existence of organized data will allow for better planning and development strategy for the sector, at a time when maritime tourism is gaining increasing importance for the Greek economy.
